Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was an Austrian noble and the heir presumptive of the throne of Austria-Hungary. He was a member of the Janus branch of the Cahill family, and, though it is unknown how active he was in branch activities, there were rumors that his family had connections to one of the 39 Clues. Lucian agent and Bosnian freedom fighter Gavrilo Princip believed these rumors, and assassinated the Archduke and his wife in Sarajevo in modern-day Bosnia and Herzegovina. The assassination kicked off a chain of declarations of war among many European powers, leading to World War I.
